Mt Whaleback is where iron ore is mined. It is just outside Newman town, and provides around three thousand people with jobs. Each day, a low, earthquake like, rumble vibrates the town, as BHP blasts away more walls from the open cut mine
The sheer magnitude and size of the mine is difficult to imagine unless you see it first hand, huge haulpack trucks are dwarfed by the surrounding landscape.
It was during this time in Newman that I bought my first box of Rembrant pastels, but you will have to look at the pastels section to see the result
